If you have a website you more than likely have Google Analytics installed. If you don’t you should.
What makes Google Analytics, or GA so great is it takes all the guessing out of everything you wanted to know about your website. That includes if you are getting traffic, where it’s coming from and what exactly those visitors are doing on the site. Without it, your website can be doing amazing or terrible and you would most likely have no clue about it.
GA provides a ton of data that isn’t just useful but also very interesting. One key figure is your website’s bounce rate. Your bounce rate is defined as the percentage of visitors that visit your site that only visit one page and then leaves.
According to Google most sites average between a 40 and 60 percent bounce rate. The lower your number the longer your potential customers or subscribers are sticking around on your site and the more likely they will probably do business with you.
If your bounce rate is in the 70 or 80 percent range obviously your audience is not finding that they are looking for when they come to your site and some changes maybe in order. Here are a few essential tips every business website should include:
What Are You:
When a visitor comes to your site they should know immediately what your site is about and how it will benefit them. People have short attention spans and if they can’t clearly find what they came to your website for in the first place they are on to the next website – potentially your competitor. Also make sure you clearly include calls to action (phone, email) throughout every page so a person can easily find how to contact you to take further action.
Who Are You:
An “About Page” is also an extremely important for your website and something you shouldn’t ignore. It your site doesn’t have one it’s like they are going to your website blind. This page is essential and should clearly include information about the company and what it does.
Make Sharing Possible:
With social media very popular these days, it is essential to include share buttons on every page of your website. If a person likes something on your page, they will not only look at other pages but will share that content with their friends either via social media or email. Depending on your audience by implementing share buttons will lower your bounce rate by one percent. Even though that number is small it can also be significant in keeping visitors on your website.
